Take a second to stop and think about your favorite recipes that your parents and grandparents made growing up. What was your favorite dish? Was it a secret family recipe? What ingredients were used? How was it prepared? Do you still make the recipe to this day? There is something so special about tradition and handing down recipes in the family!
One of the best ways we can involve our kids in the kitchen is by teaching them what we already know. Maybe you have a collection of family recipes from your own parents, but don’t always have the time to cook them. Maybe you are admittedly not the best cook and want to learn more recipes yourself. Grandparents can be the perfect complement to cooking lessons for kids. After all, nobody is as patient and kind as grandparents to their grandkids! The best part about this is that grandparents often have the stories, background, and cultural significance behind the recipes they’ve made forever. Other family members like aunties or cousins can also be a fun and important addition to the kitchen if grandparents aren’t able to be in attendance.
So, remember, next time you want to cook a traditional recipe, but don’t have the time or want your kids to learn something new, call the grandparents or aunties in the family to come and help your kids get a culinary experience that they won’t forget!
